Do you support recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by changing the Constitution or making some other kind of legal change?
Yes
What should the change look like?
The change should appear as a new section in the Constitution to cover all aspects of the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
Should we have a statement that acknowledges the First Peoples of Australia?
Yes. This should be in the Constitution.
Where is the best place to put it?
This should be in the new section allocated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, in the Constitution.
What should the statement say?
The statement should unconditionally recognise the existence of, and the rights of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in and beyond the 21st Century, without discrimination.
Do you have any other comments on a statement about the First Peoples of Australia?
No.
Should the word 'race' be taken out of the Constitution?
No
Should the Australian Parliament keep the power to make special laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples?
No
Do you have any other comments on powers to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples?
If Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are to be recognised unconditionally in the Constitution, it should mean that they have accepted the modern ways of a prosperous country; unite and not to divide the parliament by which they wish to be represented
Do you think that a guarantee against racial discrimination should go into the Constitution?
No
If there is not enough support for a guarantee in the Constitution, what other things can we do to stop racial discrimination in national laws?
Racial discrimination does not only refer to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. In the future, a very dangerous situation may arise in Australia when we will all need to protect the country against an internal attack from an unwanted enemy.
Do you have any other comments on changing the Constitution to stop racial discrimination?
No.
Do you think Indigenous people should have a say when Parliament and government make laws and policies about Indigenous affairs?
Yes
Should a new Indigenous group be set up under the Constitution to give advice and make sure Indigenous people have a voice in political decisions that affect them?
Yes
Is it worth creating the new group if it can only give advice and does not have the power to block new laws?
Yes
Do you have any ideas about what the new group would look like?
The new group should be given the power to advise and submit information that affects the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
Do you have any other comments on this Indigenous group?
If Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders expect to be recognised they must integrate into the society of modern Australia. We must all unite and not divide any of the diverse communities in Australia.
Should we delete section 25?
No
What would we achieve by getting rid of section 25?
Nothing.
Is there any point in keeping it?
For reasons of National Security and public safety.
Do you have any other comments?
If Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are to be taken seriously in their quest to be 'Recognised", it would be beneficial to all to educate them in all in the facts about Australia Day or "Invasion Day". As a well known aboriginal woman tried to point
